Terl came out the infirmary, moving slowly, his face blank, his mind numb. Whilst helping, a badly injured Freedom Fighter had died. Terl then wandered through Knothole aimlessly, not looking for anything, not looking at any one. Tails came up to him, but took one look at his face and recoiled in shock, recovered, then flew off to get Sally looking back occasionally with a worried look on his face. Approaching the outskirts of Knothole, Terl turned his head to look at a glow near a tree. The glow was Amelia, Mach was with her. As he watched, Terl saw Mach raise his hand to stroke Amelia on the muzzle, but his hand passed through her.

Something snapped inside Terls mind. His eyes went blank, he snapped straight upright, spun to orientate on Rotor workshop and set off at Maximal Overload! The back blast knocked Mach over, who quickly recovered and moved to see just what the hell was going on! In Knothole, a scene of disaster met his eyes, the young crying, the older stunned. From near to him to Rotors Workshop in a dead straight line lay a trench, smoke arising from the bottom. Along the trench line lay three huts, two had chunks ripped out of their walls, the thirds remains lay astride the trench. Racing down the trench, Mach skidded to a stop at the third hut, a group of Freedom Fighters at the side. Tails looked up. "Mach. Youre Terls best friend. Hes gone Nuts!!". Mach looked at Tails, then noticed both he and Sonic were hugging Amy Rose, who was crying. Amy looked up at Mach, her eyes red with tears. "Mach. STOP TERL. GO!!!" she wailed. Mach set off at super sonic speed, propelled by Amys psychic blast, he hit the ground running, but still he was too late. Screaching to a halt at Rotors Workshop, Mach saw Rotor lying on the ground, covered in cuts and bruises, his head in Bunnys lap, groaning slightly. Bunny looked up, saw Mach. "Terl picked us both up and threw us out!" said Bunny, shock very much evident on her face. "That face! I hope I never see it again! It was horrible!", she trembled. Mach comforted her, then approached the door of the Workshop.

The door looked strange, and was untouchable, it seemed to move in and out of focus, a layer of impervious light smoke over its surface. Mach pushed at it with his finger, then let fly with a maximum punch, each time, the layer gave slightly then recovered. He rubbed at his hand, but there was no pain. He then moved round to a window to try to see inside. A barrage of blue actinic flashes and green glow met his eyes, blurred together by the smoky layer which he now saw covered the whole workshop. Shielding his face with his hand, Mach moved back and forth trying to see, then, he stopped, his eyes opened wide in horror and he bent over, violently sick. As Mach retched again, a smooth paw touched him on the shoulder, then slid round his neck, moved under his muzzle, then turned his head round gently. A hanky moved over his eyes, closing them, then round his muzzle, cleaning him up. The hanky stopped moving.

"You can open your eyes now," said Amelia.

Machs eyes snapped open, to behold the impossible, Amelia stood there, in all her divine, glorious flesh and blood, true flesh, true fur. She held out her arms and took Mach in a passionate embrace. After a while, Mach emerged, a dreamy look on his face. Amy Rose said "Yes Mach, this IS real, it is not a dream." She had a pained look on her face. "Im OK" she continued "Its just Terl making your dream come true has side effects. He says youve got a day, 24 hours. Hes very sorry, but thats the best he can do at such short notice." Amy moved off, Sonic comforting her. Past Sonic, Mach could see Antione coming out off the imfirmary, his arm in a sling, his leg splinted, his eyes wild, moaning "My hut, what has ze happenn'ed to my beautiful hut?" Mach winced as he realised that the remains of the third hut were Antiones. Amelia then said to Mach, "You wish to see Terl? he did let me come to you". Mach shuddered, then turned to Amelia "I owe him that at least" he said, then holding onto her hand, he once more approached the window. As Amelia waved her hand in front of the window, it cleared completely. Mach winced, then looked through. This time, he didnt feel as bad as he could see everything clearly. Terl was suspended in mid air by four huge green plasma beams, frozen in a twisted shape of pure agony, but with the look of utter determination overlaid on his face. Red lasers played over his body, blue lasers played on his head, his fur glowed with a white edge and threw off electric sparks constantly. On the wall, Mach could see a range of displays, some steady, some changing slowly, some pulsing. He started, one of the displays looked suspiciously like a Heart rate monitor. Amelia noticed his reaction, looked in the same direction, and said "No, Im sorry, thats not measuring his heart rate, its how fast the system is making his heart beat. Im sorry Mach, but Terl is effectively dead, at least, for the time being." She smiled wistfully, "He must really love you, to give his life for another, even if he can recover life." Pointing to a large display in the corner she said "Look, theres the countdown, 23.37.42 and decreasing. Mach, he's given a day of his life for us to be together properly, and Mach, he also promised to do it again if he has the slightest thought that haveing me around will make you feel better. After all, he said, as far as I can work out, thats why Im here." Amelia pulled Mach gently away form the window, which slowly clouded over once more. "Please Mach, Terl wanted us to celebrate." She led him to his hut. In the workshop, Terls face relaxed slightly. The clock continued to count down. The beams fluctuated slightly......
